I have been meaning to create a blog solely for my crafting projects. I have been asked a lot lately to do decorations for several birthdays, baby showers and biggest yet, my baby sister's wedding. She's marrying my best friend from college, so doing this wedding right is doubly important to me. In my journey of refining my ideas and figuring out how to realize them, I've learned that a huge resource for me is the internet and other DIY blogs. I'm hoping that this blog will be the same for you.
A few things about me and the way I work:
I am a mother, I have a 20 month old son, Indiana which is where all of this DIY madness started! I was determined to make his 1st birthday memorable by NOT purchasing any pre-made decorations. There was nothing he was really interested in, so I felt silly buying Bob the Builder or The Backyardigans or something like that for him when he had no clue what it was. And on top of which, most of those things are really hokey looking. So I set out in the world of DIY and hand made all of the decor for his birthday- this included the invitations, party hats, give aways, cake decorations- you name it, I made it.
I'm going back into the classroom! After being on an extended maternity leave which allowed me to explore my interests in crafting and DIY, I took a part-time teaching position and will be starting up in September. What I teach? Choir. It's really enjoyable for me, and I'm excited to get back in the classroom but heartbroken to leave my boy!
I usually work in spurts. I have a lot of good ideas. I have a tendency to start a project while I'm half way through another one. If an idea I have doesn't work in the doing, I just abandon it. I don't know if this is a waste or what, but I'm trying to refine my skills, so I don't want to waste the little time I have to do these projects working on something that isn't going to turn out right.
I have another blog- mostly about parenting. It's called Once in a While. Check it out!
I hope you enjoy this blog and can get some good ideas from it! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I'm going to start by posting pictures and etc from past ventures- Halloween, Indy's bday, Christmas, My Older sister's baby shower and a few things from the wedding I'm working on.
